ZRA: We Just Saw ZIMS and Here's What We Think

At the Zoo Registrars Conference in Boise, Idaho few days ago, about fifty registrars took ZIMS for a long test drive. Some sample comments:

“The added functionality is amazing.”

“Unbelievable how much progress has been made so quickly.”

“Very impressive. I think that a lot of my paperwork will be replaced by ZIMS. Wow!”

This is a Test

For the last few weeks, the news has been the same: testing ZIMS again and again, from every angle - up, down, backwards and forwards. This week testing continues with subject matter experts (SMEs) gathered in Minneapolis (and on the telephone). This gaggle of experts includes registrars, aquarists, curators, studbook experts and veterinarians - as well as the ISIS tech support team. They are climbing through the nooks and crannies of every ZIMS screen to make sure ZIMS is doing exactly what the community needs it to do.

The testers gather in the ISIS conference room with a ZIMS screen projected on a large screen, and the ZIMS application on their laptop. Each of these SMES has spent a great deal of time with ZIMS over the past months, so the discussion of the screens is about extremely intricate things – just what we had hoped for by this point in testing.

Since major development (“code-writing”) came to an end a few weeks ago, everything at ISIS is focused tightly on three things: testing, training and global ZIMS deployment. The same news is good news: no troubles, full steam ahead.
