The “execution phase” (writing the code) for “Sprint 4” is done. Sprint 4 includes accession screens for individuals and groups, identifiers, transponders, morphometrics and measurement types (like live animal weight or shell length).Besides the 40 or so screens developed during this four-week phase, we also completed 16 reports and a new screen for contraception (something that does not exist in ARKS). Actually, we have now created hundreds of new features in ZIMS that were not found in ARKS. All of these little bits of functionality have been asked for by the community.
How do you add in so much functionality without making ZIMS overwhelmingly confusing? One reason is the technology of ZIMS. You won’t see functionality that you’ll never need-it’s automatically filtered out from your view. Another reason is that much of the data in ARKS is in text in the comments section. A lot of that data is transferred to standardized drop-down menus in ZIMS. All the new functionality you do want and need will be only one click away in ZIMS.
Next week we tie up the loose ends of Sprint 4 with some meetings in Minneapolis, send those screens into testing, and we begin Sprint 5.
